Spring weather can be unpredictable in Boise, but as soon as warm weather arrives, there are so many events and activities just waiting to be enjoyed! Whether you prefer adventure or relaxation, kid-friendly or sans children, there are countless ways to enjoy the natural beauty that Boise is so well known for. Here are just a few:
Hot Springs
There are hundreds of natural geothermal hot springs near Boise, and while they’re relaxing and therapeutic to visit any time of year, many people find the air (and the crowds) a bit more tolerable in the spring. All of the following are two hours or less from Boise:
- Givens Hot Springs – Crystal clear water with camping and cabins
- Kirkham Hot Springs – One of Boise’s most popular springs
- Gold Fork Hot Springs – 6 hot springs, including a pool for children
- Rocky Canyon Hot Springs – Hot springs with a side of adventure
- Trail Creek Hot Springs – Completely surrounded by nature
Hiking
Given the abundant forestland near Boise, it’s no surprise that hiking is one of the most popular springtime activities. There are trails suitable for hikers of all skill levels, or just for those who enjoy a good stroll. Here are a few of our favorites:
- Upper Hulls Gulch – Open to foot traffic only
- Celebration Park along Snake River – Idaho’s only archaeological park
- Cleo’s Ferry Landing and Nature Walk – A whimsical trail suitable for the entire family
- Stack Rock – Intermediate-level hiking trail with lots of shade
- Ridge to Rivers Trails – Over 190 miles of trails with abundant wildflowers
- Boise River Greenbelt – 25-mile tree-lined pathway through the heart of Boise
Outdoor Fun with Kids
After a long winter, the kids are itching to get outside and play! At the first sight of warm weather, take them to these attractions to engage their senses and get their energy out.
- Zoo Boise – Cool animals, events, and conservation efforts
- World Center for Birds of Prey – You’ll have them at the word “raptor”
- MK Nature Center – A unique wildlife experience along the Boise River Greenbelt
Wine or Beer Tour
We admit, any time of year in Boise is good for drinking wine or enjoying a brew, but there’s something enjoying a glass outside in great weather that makes it even better. There are a plethora of wineries and breweries in and around Boise, but don’t think too hard about which ones to visit. Instead, just schedule a tour, kick back, and have a great time!
- The Chinden Wine Tour leads you to five wineries along Chinden Blvd. that are all within two miles of each other.
- The Boise Brewery Tour invites you to enjoy a flight or pint of beer at three local breweries.
Farmers Markets
The Idaho soil is rich and fertile around Boise, and starting in the spring it yields the most delicious, nutritious fruits and veggies. No matter where you live in Boise, there’s likely a farmers’s market nearby where you can find fresh local produce, handcrafted art, baked goods, and more. Some of the most popular that kick off in the spring include Boise Farmers Market, Capital City Public Market, Meridian Main Street Market, Eagle Saturday Market, and Nampa Farmers Market.
Treefort Music Fest
The largest spring event in downtown Boise happens early in the season, and if you missed it this year, don’t miss the next Treefort Music Fest! Come see dozens of music acts whose genres range from hip hop to country at numerous venues downtown.
